Care Instructions for Your New Painting

Acrylic paints have been widely used for paintings since the 1950s due to their extreme durability and resistance to fading. Your new painting is acrylic on canvas. Here are some tips on caring and displaying your new piece:

If you choose to frame your piece, you do not need to cover with glass. I use an acrylic resin varnish to seal and protect my artwork from scratches, sunlight and dust, as well as create a color enhancing sheen. Covering your piece with glass will actually cause glare and distract from your viewing.

Make sure to hang your piece in an area with adequate lighting. If your painting has warmer colors, then it would be best placed in an area with soft lighting, like that from a lamp with a warm brightness bulb. If it has darker hues, I would recommend hanging in a room with lots of natural light to bring out cool tones. Caution! If placed in direct sunlight, even with the durability that both acrylic paints and the resin sealant used provide, over time, the painting’s depth of color can fade.

Your painting may collect dust over time, so clean it with a soft cloth that has been damped with water. DO NOT use any solvents, as this will destroy your painting.

If you were to have any denting in your canvas occur, simply lay the canvas face down on a clean, flat surface. Boil a cup of water, and apply brush strokes of the hot water in an “X” shaped over the dented area. As the hot water dries, it will tighten the cotton canvas, removing the dented area.
